The Department of Internal Medicine on Mount Scopus serves the north eastern section of Jerusalem, providing medical service areas for patients referred from clinics in the community in the north and east of Jerusalem and, in its specialized activities, patients from all parts of the country like Modi'in, the West Bank and the Jordan Valley. The Department is in constant contact with the doctors of these communities and participates in their training. Department physicians are also incorporated in health care in the Geriatric institution, Bet Bayer, and within the hospital, the Home that is run by the Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics at Hadassah Mount Scopus.
The department is known for its efficient patient care reflected by the shortest average period of hospitalization (four to five days) among all the Departments of Medicine in Jerusalem.
The Mount Scopus Hospital does not have independent units for each of the subspecialties of Internal Medicine. The specializations of the physicians in the department include:
The Intensive Coronary Care Unit and the Electrophysiological Laboratory which provide the most sophisticated methods for the diagnoses and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, including installation of pacemakers and AICD;
Gastroenterological activities including operation of a diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic facility. The department serves as a specialized center for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases.
Hypertension, Osteoporosis and Emergency Medicine.
The Department of Medicine on Mount Scopus is well known for its very high standards of teaching undergraduate students and residents, as well as department physicians engaged in clinical and basic research.
The department's senior staff includes experts with experience in gastroenterology and liver disease, hypertension, hematology, rheumatology, cardiology and atherosclerosis, emergency medicine and infectious diseases. The Department handles a variety of complex patients in collaboration with various disciplines such as the neurology and hematology units at Mount Scopus, the Dialysis Institute and the cardiac rehabilitation institute in Riklis House, and specialization courses at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
Department physicians specialize in diagnosing complex medical problems and treatment according to medical and scientific evidence, while making sure to address medical ethics issues.
