About The Center for Pediatric Liver Diseases

The Center for Pediatric Liver Diseases at "Hadassah" Ein Kerem medical center, directed by Dr. Eyal Shteyer, specializes in a wide variety of liver diseases and conditions in children. In addition to diagnosing and treating liver conditions, the center provides dietary consultations (from our pediatric dietitian, Ms. Michal Nae), social work services and a nursing team who is familiar with the children and contributes to a warm and welcoming environment.

The center recieves children with liver enzyme problems, which might indicate liver disfunction. Mostly, after a comprehensive check-up, the problem turns out to only be a viral infection, but during the inquiry many problems are ruled out, most of them being treatable anyway. During the diagnosis, Celiac, viral infections of the liver, Wilson's Disease and Autoimmune Liver Disease are tested to be ruled out. The diagnosis process begins with blood tests, and could include imaging tests such as Ultrasound, CT, MRI or MRCP. According to the results, sometimes a liver biopsy is necessary to give a more accurate diagnosis of the child's condition.
