Prof. Bar-On passed away on
October 19, 2006
Hanoch Bar-On is a graduate of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel. He was trained in Internal Medicine at the Medical School and went on to become a full professor in 1985.
In addition, he was a visiting Professor at various prestigious medical institutions outside of Israel, including at Stanford, California, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York and at the University of Toronto, Canada.
Prof. Bar-On served as Chairman of the Teaching Committee of Internal Medicine and the Teachers-Students Committee at the Hebrew University Medical School from 1987-1996.
In 1982, he became Head of the Diabetes Unit at Hadassah Hospital.
He is the author of many publications in various medical journals and books. In recent years his main research efforts include:
Studying an animal model (Psammomys) for Type 2 diabetes: to further understand the physiology of insulin resistance in a trial of a novel peptide mimicking insulin activity which activates the transduction signaling in cells.
To further genetic exploration of diabetes.
Homocysteine as a risk factor in the development of macro-vascular complications in diabetes.
Trial of a new delivery system of oral insulin capsules in conjunction with a New York-based pharmaceutical company. Phase 1 in normal volunteers has been successfully completed.
