Prof. Aaron Polliack

Department of Hematology

Hadassah University Hospital

Ein-Karem, Jerusalem

Professor Polliack was born in Cape Town in 1939 and received his medical training in South Africa.

In 1962 he arrived to Israel where he trained in Internal Medicine, followed by Pathology and finally Hematology. He has risen to the rank of Full Professor and is Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Unit of the Hematology Department.

Prof. Polliack is a renowned figure in hemato-oncology. He serves on many committees, and has longstanding associations with many international groups studying leukemia and lymphoma throughout Europe. He is the Editor-in-Chief of a journal, Leukemia and Lymphoma, and is on the editorial board of nearly 2 dozen other publications.

Prof. Polliack has been highly instrumental in introducing many novel therapeutic modalities into Israel, due to his many affiliations abroad and his highly respected stature. He brought to our department a large number of chemotherapeutic agents while they were still in experimental stages (fludarabine, idarubicin, monoclonal antibodies of several types, etc) and has therefore been at the leading edge of hematology practice both in Israel and in the world.

In our department, Prof. Polliack was extremely active in both initiating clinical protocols in general and in taking a role in decision making on the treatment of many problematic patients who are referred to our hospital.

Prof. Polliack has retired on September 2003 but still active in the Lymphoma clinic.
