Surgery – Mt. Scopus


The Department of Surgery at Hadassah Mount Scopus offers diagnostic, operative and perioperative services in the following areas:

1. Tumors of the gastrointestinal tract including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon and the rectum.

 

2. Inflammatory diseases, stone diseases and tumors of the gallbladder, biliary ducts, liver and pancreas.

 

3. a) Operative therapy of peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum.

 

    b)     Laparoscopic repairs of hiatal (diaphragmatic) hernias and gastroesophageal reflux diseases (GERD).

 

    c)     Laparoscopic repairs of achalasia of esophagus.

 

4. Resections and reconstructions in inflammatory bowel diseases, particularly in Crohn's  disease and ulcerative colitis.

 

5. a)     Benign and malignant breast tumors, including sentinel lymph node biopsies and breast reconstruction (in cooperation with the department of Plastic Surgery).

 

    b)     A comprehensive - multidisciplinary breast cancer program.

 

6. Repairs of abdominal wall hernias including:

 

    a)     Open and laparoscopic repairs of groin hernias (inguinal and femoral).

 

    b)     Repair of various incisional hernias (open and laparoscopic).

 

7. Laparoscopic band surgery and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for morbid obesity combined with a comprehensive support program for morbidly obese patients.

 

8. Conservative and operative treatment of hemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas.

 

9. Endocrine surgery:  thyroid; parathyroid (including minimally invasive surgery); neck dissection for thyroid tumors; benign and tumoral diseases of the adrenal (including laparoscopic adrenalectomies). 

 

10. The department is a center of excellence for advanced laparoscopic and thoracoscopic  surgery (minimal invasive/keyhole surgery) including gall bladder; large bowel (colon);  appendix; spleen; hiatal hernia and reflux esophagitis, achalasia, inguinal (groin) hernia repairs; adrenal; thoracic and lumbar sympathectomies.

 

11. Diagnostic and operative treatment of malignant melanomas including sentinel lymph node dissection; radical lymph node dissection and various reconstructive procedures (in cooperation with the department of plastic surgery).  Systemic therapy of melanoma with IL-2.

 

12. In the outpatient clinic various ambulatory procedures are performed under local anesthesia like various biopsies, removal of various skin lesions and ligation of hemorrhoids.
