In addition, the department provides comprehensive expert services in pediatric surgery, oncology, urology, vascular surgery and plastic surgery through full-time consultants in their respective fields of expertise.
As early as 1991, the department entered the field of minimal invasive surgery developing an active and leading clinical and training program of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures. It performs gallbladder surgery, colon resections, Nissen fundoplications, splenectomies, adrenalectomies, groin and incisional hernia repairs, laparoscopic gastric band and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery for morbid obesity, thoracic and lumbar sympathectomies and various other thoracoscopic procedures.
A training center and laboratory has been initiated in which training courses are held for general surgeons, gynecologists, orthopedic surgeons, vascular surgeons and pediatric surgeons of both Hadassah hospitals in order to promote endoscopic surgery in all the various surgical specialties. The training center also accepts select surgeons from other hospitals in Israel for training. A clinical fellowship program for minimal invasive surgery was established, providing a comprehensive laparoscopic training program of one year duration unique in Israeli surgery.
The department has been improving its productivity continuously over the last years with a steady increase in the number of admissions and bed occupancy, a reduction in hospital stay and a significant increase in the number and complexity of operative procedures performed.
Quality assurance is maintained by strict adherence to therapeutic protocold and procedures. |
