Welcome to the Department of Social Work Services

The Hadassah Medical Organization Department of Social Work Services, founded in 1965, serves both the Ein Kerem (Jerusalem) and Mt. Scopus (Jerusalem) campuses.

Our staff consists of 64 academically trained social workers, with extensive experience and expertise in social work in the fields of health and mental health. They can be found in emergency medicine on the adult and pediatric wards, outpatient and specialized day care services. Areas of service include gerontology, obstetrics, psychiatry, psycho-oncology, trauma, domestic violence and child protection. Social workers are mandated to intervene within the framework of the law in specific areas such as guardianship, child and elder abuse.

Social workers engage in crisis intervention; professional consultation; as well as long-term care and discharge planning, in conjunction with community welfare and health services. Patients and families receive entitlement counseling in regard to disability, welfare and local and national tax benefits. In addition to the patients themselves, the treatment unit includes family and significant others involved in patient care. All social workers are trained in therapies that are used in medical crises and trauma as well as coping with long-term illness and loss.

Trained group workers facilitate support and therapy groups in multiple areas including cystic fibrosis, IVF, juvenile diabetes, oncology and post-operative cardiovascular care.

A student social work fieldwork-training center trains student social workers in conjunction with a number of Israeli universities and colleges including the Hebrew University Baerwald School of Social Work.  Social work staff is involved in research activities under the auspices of the joint Hebrew University, Baerwald School of Social Work–Hadassah, Department of Social Work Research Center.

Hospitalization or prolonged outpatient care often confronts the patient and his loved ones with a new and unfamiliar reality that requires suitable planning and preparation. We will be happy to assist all those who are in need of our services.
