The Hebrew University’s Braun School of Public Health and Hadassah Jerusalem were asked by the Health Ministry in Moscow to organize a communal workshop to examine health problems is migratory populations.

The workshop will use common experiences to establish a base for future cooperation, and will take place on Tuesday through Friday, 16-19 October 2007.

 

One of the challenges facing governments in the world is illegal immigration.  The goal of the workshop is to discuss to discuss this issue with special emphasis on problems of public health, such as: HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and other infectious diseases and also will discuss strategies for control, legal aspects, health education, medical insurance and more.

 

This workshop provides an opening for the cooperation of organizations interested in looking at health care in a universal way.  The program will be sponsored by the Russian Health Ministry and the Israeli Health Ministry of the General Security Services (the center of international cooperation in the Ministry Of The Exterior).  The Braun School of Public Health, World Health Organization and European Health Organization will also take part in the workshop.

 

"We are happy for the opportunity to be part of this rare meeting.  We will be speaking about the important subject of health issues common to both nations, and I am hopeful because from here we can build other means of cooperation,” indicated Professor Elliot Barry, who is on staff at both the Braun School of Public Health and Hadassah.
